	Wi-Fi is said, just like HiFi it stands for Wireless Fidelity, simply put, the Wi-Fi
certification guarantees interoperability and compatibility between 802.11b products.

Wi-Fi is the certification standard put out by the WECA (Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance). They are a group formed to promote 802.11b and to ensure the correct implementation. With the Wi-Fi certification, 802.11b wireless Ethernet products are tested with very strict measures and are 100% interoperable. Wi-Fi is the logo you want to see on any 802.11b products and is also a good indicator of quality.

Without the Wi-Fi certification companies would be able to conform loosely to the 802.11b spec and consumers would end up being frustrated with non compatible products.

 

Imagine you buy a wireless Ethernet card, and your friend has one in his/her notebook from a competing brand. They are both 802.11b products so you try and connect with each other to share files. To your horror and disgust you find that nothing works and you wonder why you bought the products in the first place.

With Wi-Fi certified products you would not have to worry. The testing process for Wi-Fi is very, very strict and so you can be absolutely sure everything will work.
